Set in the pretty village of Levington just 15 minutes from the centre of Ipswich, this quirky 60’s style property offers a great space for a family holiday in a countryside setting but close to amenities and Levington Marina. As soon as you walk in the door you are taken back to the 60’s with stylish furniture and large rooms. There is a downstairs single bedroom and walk-in shower room, ideal for the less mobile. Upstairs are a further three double bedrooms and a bathroom.
Levington Lagoon is on the doorstep where you will find great walks and a variety of wildlife and makes for a fantastic bird-watching site throughout the year. Seasonal specialities include greenshank, spotted redshank, dunlin, short-eared owl and flocks of pipit. You may also be lucky enough to spot kingfisher which seem to be something of a ‘regular’ here. Saltmarsh plants include lilac drifts of sea lavender (which, unlike its inland cousin, has no scent) and sea purslane. Suffolk Wildlife Trust looks after this site by controlling water levels via a system of sluices to encourage wading birds. The marina area has some good eateries, and you can take boat trips down the Orwell.
Further afield is Woodbridge a pretty riverside town which offers an array of shops. Further along the coast is Aldeburgh, a delightful seaside town with an array of independent shops, fish stalls and a very popular fish and chip shop. Southwold has coloured beach huts, lighthouse, shops and eateries and home to Adnams Brewery where you can have tours and tastings. Close by is Walberswick, again with a lovely beach and a popular place to go crabbing, and you can catch a ferry across from Southwold. Dunwich Museum, which is the perfect history experience, tells the story of the city lost to sea. If you love nothing more than a long walk beside the sea, a brisk stroll before lunch, cycling along quiet lanes, sailing iconic estuaries, or spending hours quietly watching some of the UK’s rarest wildlife, the beautiful landscape of the Coast and Heaths Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty has it all. For a day out with children then Pleasurewood Hills at Lowestoft is sure to keep them entertained, as is Africa Alive at Kessingland.
