The parquet flooring has been up-cycled from Cloth Hall and is now warm underfoot. You’ll enter from the outdoor seating area into an open plan living area. The modern kitchen, with its cast concrete worktops, and the state of the art wet room, surrounds a sumptuous kingsize bedroom. Outside, the property has its own terrace garden, screened using beech hedging, along with shared use of the firepit area. There is an unfenced pond with ducks and a goose in front of the property, so while the owner does allow children in the property, please do make sure care is taken.
Smarden is a wonderful place to live and to visit. It is a beautiful, Kentish weavers’ village with many buildings of architectural and historical note dating from the 14th century. St Michael’s Church of the Archangel is in the centre of the village and is also known as the ’Barn of Kent’ because of its unusually broad, scissor-beamed roof, unsupported by pillars. Walking through the centre of the village gives a reflective sense of historic charm and timelessness. Visitors can purchase a booklet produced by the local history society (from any of the three shops or three pubs), that gives a few sentences about many of the timber framed houses. Smarden has been called the most beautiful village in Kent and it is certainly a lovely village, blessed with a number of attractive historic cottages.
Nearby attractions include Leeds and Bodiam castles, Sissinghurst Castle Gardens, Great Dixter Gardens and Godinton House Gardens. Or why not visit Biddenden Vineyard for a self-guided tour or tasting session. Headcorn Air Museum, The Kent and East Sussex Steam Train, several woodland walks and the Kino Digital Cinema are all within easy reach of Smarden and this fantastic holiday home. Beach 21 miles.
