Positive: This is a nice hotel and someone has spent a lot of time and money refurbishing it and making it what it is... The room was comfortable and when we couldn't turn the heating down, a staff member was happy to help. It was a pleasant stay!

Negative: At check-in I was asked to provide my email so as I could provide my bank details? After querying as to why they wanted this, I wasn't given a credible explanation beyond a mumbled "In case the room is damaged or something like that..." Obviously it wasn't EVER going to happen, I refused and made clear that beyond a swipe of my credit card (and a photocopy of my driving licence??) they wouldn't be getting anything else. This policy needs to be scrapped immediately or the people who have money (like myself and my wife) won't stay there again. I am buying property in the area and as an aside, spoke to a Senior Partner at a top London law firm we are using to handle multiple property transactions - He was aghast and pointed out it would be illegal and fraudulent to try and apply for any charges without a) consent and/or b) irrefutable proof that any loss or damage suffered by the hotel was caused by either myself or my wife. Even then, they would need to establish the loss or damage was 'deliberate and avoidable' but let's just take a reality check here... This is really smart, comfortable and recently refurbished hotel and our stay was perfectly fine... The check in policy isn't just a bit unusual, anybody giving their bank details via an email link in such circumstances would be breaking the terms and conditions of their relationship with the bank!!! If someone wants to make contact with me and a) apologise before b) explaining what should have happened instead... I will withdraw the negative comments about our check in experience, if not I strongly advise future customers to refuse point blank to provide bank details via email - a misused credit card is something banks deal with daily and issue charge backs immediately... If you give away personalised bank details in an email, don't expect the bank to be very sympathetic...😲
